Diary Entries 06

From the Camp diary 2006 here are a couple of reactions to Hódmezővásárhely this summer:

24th July 2006 Diary entry by Mario.

Dear Diary, Today was the first day of the camp, and I’ve already made two wonderful discoveries. #1: Not only could Moses lead his people through the sea in a day dry, but the opposite is possible too! I led MY people through the fair town of Hódmez in a way that everybody got wet- not having any water around us whatsoever. This latter achievement might not exceed the former in wondrousness, however, one can easily see the similarity: The people were grumbling just the same... #2: I forgot it... (Can't have been that wonderful a discovery then!) For the future, dear Diary, my advice to myself is the following: it's nice when you play; it's nice when the guitar plays... but next time you should consult with each other before starting to "play" together! I'm looking forward to the next day :)

25th July 2006 Diary entry by David Barnie

Dear Diary, I woke up today feeling great! The breakfast was OK but I would prefer Room Service with coffee, bacon, sausage, cereal & toast! Bible Classes went well and we talked about Esther and how she was a great woman of God. English lessons were cool! We did an article about bananas. Apparently you can grow bananas in Hungary! We then told some Scottish Jokes: mostly to do with not spending money and hating the English. Don't worry that's not true- only joking! Lunch was OK I really enjoyed going swimming in the outdoor swimming pool. When I emerged from the male changing room I looked like a bottle of milk in a sea of coffee. But it was OK I mixed well. I played "piggy" or "cat" in the middle with a ball in the swimming pool. Christoff was very over-enthusiastic with trying to get the ball. He's a pretty cool cat. Then I chilled out with the Scottish team. We lay out in the sun and ate Lángos. We don't have sun in Scotland, or Lángos. Came back just in time for Mario's talk. it was very good. He'll make a great preacher one day. Do you know what? I was so tired today I went for a 1 hour sleep during tea. I even missed the pancakes. But, it didn't matter because afterwards I beat András at table tennis in the most dramatic table tennis match ever. COME ON SCOTLAND! I hung out with the Scottish and Hungarian leaders and we laughed a lot. Have a nice day.

Herein lies that great summer hit "Vasarhely" an all time great by Janet Matheson

To the tune of Yesterday by the Beatles...

Vasarhely,
We have fun there almost every day,
Gyuri makes us walk from far away
Oh, we walked for 20 K

Suddenly,
I'm not half as pale as Dave Barnie,
There's no shadows hanging over me
Oh, I got sunburnt suddenly.

I'll be back next year, wishing for a holiday.
Till then I long for Hodmezavasarhely

Vasarhely,
We have English lessons every day,
& there is no place to hide away,
But in my bed i'd rather stay.

When we went to bed, i don't know, I couldn't say
If they allowed us: we'd stay up till break of day.

Vasarhely
We play table-tennis all the day
there is no rain, & the sky ain't grey-
Oh, how I love you Vasarhely!
