New Camp - Debrecen
Following an approach from Ola`h Istvan, an assistant pastor in the Great Reformed Church (Nagytemplom) in Debrecen, and a visit by our Chairman and the Camps Coordinator, it was decided to have a camp there this year. Debrecen, which is located about 300 kilometers east of Budapest, is the second largest city in Hungary and in the past was an autonomous city republic during the Turkish occupation of Hungary. It has been a major centre of Protestantism since The Reformation, and Hungary`s independence was declared in the Nagytemplom by Lajos Kossuth in 1849.
The camp site is 5-6 kilometers outside the city in a scenic woodland area and contains a conference centre, chalet-style accommodation and sports facilities.
