Hejce 06 by Rob
Hejce this year was huge. There were tons of campers, 12 leaders from Britain and what felt like about 50 Hungarian leaders (which was nice). We even got 2 much in demand male leaders, Tomi and Gergö, who helped the ladies out in the kitchen and were great guys.
The camp ran as well as ever with everyone reporting good English lessons and Bible studies. The evening talks by the British team about being a Christian in different contexts were top quality.
Personal highlights for me were:
1. English class. I performed an over-head kick during one of my lessons, surely a first in the history of EEFC.
2. Bible studies. These were about Esther and I had thought that these were going to be pretty difficult but they turned out to be a great opportunity to bring out the Gospel message.
3. Leaders' meetings. Always a laugh when you've got David Barnie and lots of tired people. Times of prayer were great.
4. David Barnie encouraging Dáni Báci (a much loved senior figure in the Hungarian Reformed Church) to draw a hedgehog as part of his evening talk.
5. Learning Hungarian tongue-twisters from some of the younger campers. Now I don't know how to buy a train ticket in Hungarian but I can say, "one cherry stone plus one cherry stone is two cherry stones."
6. The camp concert. Usually I hate it but this year it was pretty good. I did my usual routine of writing a song during the show and came up with the reggae-tinged 'No Teacher No Cry'.
All in all, a total beauty. Managed to surprise my girlfriend Anne after camp by proposing to her in Budapest. You don't do that every year. Here's some photos of the camp courtesy of David Barnie.
Over and out.
