Mahanaim 2009

"Sirály volt a tábor!" commented one camper - roughly translated "The camp was as cool as a seagull" as the Hungarian saying goes. High praise indeed. It really was a great week, much fun was had by all and much seed was sown. We thank God for all we had the chance to be part of at Mahanaim this year.

We had nearly fifty campers along this summer - by far the most I've ever known of. This included nearly the whole camp returning from last year, which meant we hit the ground running getting to know each other. The same was true with the Hungarian team, a consistent group has come back each summer for the last few years and it really feels as though we're working as one team.

The Hungarian group had a new team leader this summer - Kati, who has worked her way up after coming as a camper for many years and she did a great job organising their part.

On the recreational side, we taught them some useful skills like playing the bagpipes and playing cricket (I still believe one year we can succeed in getting a Hungarian to bowl with a straight arm).

Our Bible studies followed through the "I am" sayings of Jesus - a kind of ‘Who does Jesus say he is' theme that ran through the camp. A real highlight for me was catching up with a couple of campers who professed faith for the first time last summer. It's great to be part of the work at Mahanaim and I'm already looking ahead to coming back next summer.
